But authentic, virtuous leadership is not a skill. 
And examples of and the “how to” deploy authentic leadership are all around us. Tonight, you’ll hear two world-class speakers and leaders, who themselves exemplify these virtues and have each made it their mission in life to bring out Greatness in others, one person at a time.

Dr. Edward Sri

Dr. Sri will be speaking on the topic of his new book 'The Art of Living'. Dr. Sri will show us that the virtues are the basic life skills we need to give the best of ourselves to the people in our lives. In short, the practice of the virtues gives us the freedom to love. It's the perfect introduction to the character-based leadership programs we fund for youth & educators.'

ALF Presents: Dr. Ed Sri, The Art Of Living 

The world not only has lost faith; it has lost the art of living–we don’t even know the basics of how to live friendship, dating, marriage and family life anymore.  If we are going to have authentic friendships, build solid marriages and raise children well in this culture, we must rediscover the great tradition of the virtues. Drawing from his newest book, The Art of Living: The Cardinal Virtues and the Freedom to Love, Dr. Edward Sri shows how love requires virtue. Only people who intentionally grow in virtue can give the best of themselves to their friends, their spouse, and their children. Virtue gives us the freedom to love. Anyone can say “I love you.” Some people might sincerely mean it. But only those who have virtue possess the freedom to love. Unfortunately, it is this great tradition of the virtues that is being withheld from us in our culture.  

Dr. Edward Sri is a theologian, author and well-known Catholic speaker who appears regularly on EWTN. Each year he speaks to tens of thousands of people from around the world, including clergy, parish leaders, catechists and laity.

He has written several best-selling books, including No Greater Love: A Biblical Walk through Christ’s Passion, Walking with Mary, Who Am I to Judge? – Responding to Relativism with Logic and Love, and Into His Likeness: Be Transformed as a Disciple.

Edward Sri is also the host of the acclaimed film series Symbolon: The Catholic Faith Explained and the presenter of several faith formation film series, including A Biblical Walk through the Mass; Mary: A Biblical Walk with the Blessed Mother; and Follow Me: Meeting Jesus in the Gospel of John.

He is a founding leader with Curtis Martin of FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students), where he currently serves as Sr. Vice President of Apostolic Outreach.

Dr. Sri leads pilgrimages to Rome and the Holy Land each year and is the host of the weekly podcast “All Things Catholic.” He holds a doctorate from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome and is an adjunct professor at the Augustine Institute. He resides with his wife Elizabeth and their eight children in Littleton, Colorado.

The Authentic Leader Award

The Authentic Leader Award was created to encourage our youth, educators, and adults by identifying practical examples of the leaders we are able to build with our character-based leadership program.

Dan Lipinski

Our first Authentic Leader Award recipient is Former Congressman Dan Lipinski, who grew up in the “bungalow belt” of blue-collar families on the Southwest Side of Chicago, and went on to earn two engineering degrees (Northwestern and Stanford) and a Ph.D. in political science from Duke. Dan taught American Politics as an assistant professor before serving 16 years in the U.S. House of Representatives where he was known as a commonsense problem solver who brought people together and got things done.

In Dan's word's, his mission is to "...be a bridge."

At great personal sacrifice, he executed his mission as a bridge with strength of character as demonstrated by his voting record in congress, voting Christian first, not party.
