Second Nature, as the term suggests, revolves around behaviors that are habitual or automatic. Everyday tasks, like brushing our teeth or waking up at a certain hour, often happen effortlessly. But, the journey to these automatic behaviors is founded on understanding instinct and first nature. While instincts are innate actions we undertake without learning, first nature requires thought, practice, and often includes the experience of failure. For instance, tying shoelaces is not instinctual; it’s learned through repetition. Such repetitiveness is the key to integrating virtues into our character as second nature.
