You’ve heard people use the word ‘heart’ to refer to character. So, think of character as a specialized muscle called the heart. Virtue in Latin is ‘virtus’, which means ‘strength’. So, think of virtues as the muscle fibers of the heart. You practice virtues to strengthen your heart muscle or character.
